I have the sad news that I will be leaving Transition Chandlers Ford at the end of May. I have decided to concentrate my efforts on Transition Southampton since I live in Southampton. Eastleigh Transition Network continues to exist and will be continuing its activities, so if you would like to continue receiving updates, please join up to the mailing list at: http://eepurl.com/e2ZQM. Many thanks for all of you who turned up to events, helped the group and supported me along the way. It's been great fun. I may see you sometime in the future.

Composting (MORE COMING SOON)
Home Composting is the best solution for garden and kitchen vegetable waste as it avoids the financial and environmental cost of transporting waste to other sites. Your garden will also benefit from the free, organic compost that will be generated. Home composters can be purchased at a reduced cost through the WRAP Home Composting Scheme - http://www.testvalley.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=4490

Garden Waste Disposal
Garden Waste can be disposed of by taking the waste to Household Waste Recycling Centres. This service is FREE of charge. Centres are in:
  • Woodside Avenue, Eastleigh
  • Bunny Lane, Timbury, Romsey
  • Scott Close, Walworth Business Park, Andover

The council offer a fortnightly garden waste collection service. You will need to sign up with the council to be part of this. Once you have signed up, you will recieve green waste disposal bags. Below is a list of items you can place in this
CAN BE COLLECTED
  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge cuttings
  • Weeds
  • Small branches
  • Leaves
  • Prunings
  • Small amounts of windfall fruit
CAN'T BE COLLECTED
  • Soil / Concrete / Rubble
  • Fruit and vegetable peelings
  • Food scraps
  • Coal ash
  • Animal waste
  • Commercial waste
  • Household waste

A special collection service can be arranged by the council to collect this waste but there is a minimum of charge of £25.00 for this. If large amounts of garden waste need to be collected, a skip can be hired. If professional services are hired for your garden, please ensure they dispose of the waste themselves.

Every year, an average household in Test Valley produces about 1 tonne of waste. Almost 35% of this waste could be recycled and an additional 20% could be composted through the Council's Garden Waste Collection Service, by home composting or by taking it to a Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Our overall recycling rate in Test Valley is currently almost 35%.
